EHS Specialist/Engineer 12-WMC-01

Job Description: Wellstat Management Company, a privately-held biotech company located in Gaithersburg, MD, is seeking an EHS Specialist/Engineer to join our team. This position will provide support in maintaining environmental health and safety compliance programs, including: hazardous and biohazardous waste management, radiation safety, hazard communication and chemical inventory, chemical hygiene, biosafety and blood borne pathogens exposure control, first aid and emergency response, and general office safety. The position will conduct routine safety inspections and equipment checks, and will provide oversight to EHS contractors and vendors. The position will be a designated emergency responder for EHS incidents, including injuries, accidents, and chemical or biological spills.

Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in relevant discipline (Biology, Chemistry, Safety, etc.).
  • Minimum 4 – 8 years experience in EHS, preferably with experience in biotech/R&D environment.
  • Strong organization, writing and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage workload independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience working with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access.)
  • Experience working in radioactive materials management (RSO preferred), hazardous waste management, biosafety (BSL-2), and general laboratory safety.
  • Experience developing and conducting EHS training programs.
  • Experience drafting or editing EHS policies and SOPs.
  • Workers compensation or occupational health experience preferred
  • Job is not a sedentary position, and may require significant walking, lifting (up to 25 lbs.), climbing ladders, wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), or working in dirty work environments.
